I'M AN EXPLORER

I’m An Explorer

by Kevin J. Rosenberg

I’m an explorer, restless, untethered

Driven by wanderlust, ungrounded and weathered

My pack on my back I’ll set off on the trails

Or maybe hop a freight and just ride the rails

Adventure is what guides me, often alone

But still longing to have someone waiting for me at home

Crossing mountains and rivers with skill and with ease

But after decades of wandering it’s now with pain in my knees

I’ve seen more than most, traveled near and afar

Never satisfied, always curious about what’s under the stars

No I can’t settle down, just work nine to five

Not knowing what’s ahead is what keeps me alive

I’ve crossed oceans through hurricanes to see what was there

Soared high up in the clouds and floated on air

I’ve roared with the rapids and sailed calm bays

I pray this is how I get to live out my days

Always dreaming of the next one, never satisfied

Knowing when I fail that at least I tried

Though sometimes pushed back, my spirit is unbroken

I’ll be back the next morning as soon as I’ve woken.

It’s the spirit within us, we live to explore

Like Franklin, and Amundsen, and all those before

So lace up your boots, go find your glory

Buy me a beer and I’ll tell you a story
