Greenland Trekking Adventure - EXTENDED EDITION
Greenland Trekking Adventure - EXTENDED EDITION
AWAKEN THE EXPLORER WITHIN and join us as we journey north of the Arctic Circle for what will truly be the adventure of a lifetime! Despite being the largest non-continental island, with an area larger than Mexico, Greenland is the least densely populated country on the planet, and although 81% of the land is covered in ice, the remaining land has supported the Inuit population for over 4,500 years.
The trip begins as you fly into an old U.S. Air Force base, a relic of the Cold War, and now Greenland's international airport. We’ll be staying here for the night in comfortable hotel accommodations but first we’ll head east along Greenland’s longest road to edge of Greenland Ice Sheet where you’ll have the opportunity to walk on the ice.
For nine days and eight nights we'll then cross the Arctic tundra as we follow the southern route of the Arctic Circle Trail to the west coast of Greenland. Along the way you'll cross pristine streams, press on through scrub birch and willow thickets, pass through valleys brimming with the colors of the Arctic, and have countless opportunities to view Reindeer, Arctic Hare, and maybe even Musk Oxen, or an Arctic Fox. Mid-way through our trek we’ll spend the night in the small fishing village of Sarfannguit where you’ll have to opportunity to meet the locals and check out the newly installed Qaammat Pavilion, winner of the 2022 International Architecture Award.
You'll feel immense pride as you walk into the beautiful coastal town of Sisimiut for a well-deserved warm meal and a good night's sleep. Over several days in Sisimiut, an area that has been inhabited for at least 4,500 years, you'll learn about Greenlandic culture and sample some native dishes. We'll check out the Sisimiut Museum, meet local artisans at their workshop, and even have a get together with an extended family of Inuit hunters who have been friends of ours for nearly a decade.
This trip can easily be combined with a longer trip to Europe either before or after our journey. How about checking Greenland off of your bucket list and joining the ranks of those that have explored the Arctic.
